Outdoor unit noise: how to avoid disturbance
Outdoor units make some noise. Careful siting and mounting keep it limited for neighbours and occupants.
Siting
Distance to windows and boundaries, reflection from walls and unit orientation affect perceived noise. A roof or courtyard may suit better than a wall beside bedrooms.
Mounting and equipment
Vibration dampers, a solid base and a quieter model help. Check the manufacturer’s sound data.
Rules
Municipalities may set requirements for noise and placement, and owners’ associations or listed buildings may add conditions. Check in advance.
